World Voice Day

Every year on April 16, the world pauses briefly to celebrate something we use every day, often without thinking: our voices.
World Voice Day is an international observance dedicated to recognizing the importance of the human voice in communication, expression, and the arts. It also raises awareness about caring for our voices and appreciating their role in our daily lives.
But beyond the science and health, there’s something deeply human at the heart of it. Our voices are how we tell stories, share emotions, and build relationships. They’re how communities are formed—through conversation, laughter, and, of course, music.
For those of us in a choir, World Voice Day feels especially meaningful. Singing is one of the most powerful ways we connect—not just as performers, but as neighbors and friends. When we rehearse and perform, we’re doing more than making music; we’re creating a shared experience that belongs to everyone in the room.
That’s part of what makes community music so special. You don’t need to be a professional singer to have a voice worth hearing. You just need the willingness to join in.
This year’s World Voice Day theme, “Caring for Our Voices,” is a gentle reminder to value what we have—whether that means staying vocally healthy, supporting the arts, or simply making space in our lives for music.
Because every voice matters. And together, those voices create something extraordinary. So today, we invite you to celebrate with us:
Sing along to your favorite song
Come hear a local performance
Or just take a moment to listen—to yourself and to others
