Dear Friends,
Welcome to 2026! As we step into the new year, our rehearsal room is filled with excitement and some truly beautiful American opera and musical theatre music. We are especially delighted to be preparing for our upcoming mini concert featuring our very special guest baritone, Nathan De’Shon Myers from Arizona State University.
Nathan and CES share a meaningful history. Two years ago, he invited our choir to join the ASU Gospel Choir and orchestra at Gammage Auditorium—an unforgettable experience that remains close to our hearts.
Nathan is a remarkably versatile artist, and in this mini-concert you will hear the full, rich, and clear beauty of his baritone voice in selections from Porgy and Bess, Ragtime, and several beloved spirituals. Together, Nathan and CES will conclude with the powerful anthem Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing, a moment we know will be deeply moving. Plus, our guests are invited to participate in a talkback session with Nathan over a glass of wine!
February is Black History Month, and this program gives us the opportunity to honor the extraordinary contributions of African American composers – both women and men – whose voices have shaped our musical and cultural heritage. It is a privilege to share this music and these stories with you on Saturday, February 28.
We hope you will join us for this special choral event! Nathan is superb, our singers are singing their hearts out, and we are grateful to Steinway, our generous donor, for hosting us in their space and with their magnificent grand piano in an intimate setting of just 100 guests. Tickets are available on our website, and we encourage you to reserve yours soon.
We so look forward to singing for you.
Warmly,
Carolyn Eynon
Artistic Director
