The Victory Vertical Show: A Musical Journey Through History

Dear friends and music lovers,

I'm still feeling energized from our recent performance of The Victory Vertical Show at the Steinway Piano Gallery in Scottsdale. As the conductor of the Carolyn Eynon Singers, I had the privilege of experiencing this remarkable event from a unique vantage point, and I wanted to share some reflections with you.

Our collaboration with Steinway Artist Dr. Gary Pedersen brought to life a fascinating chapter of musical history. The story of the Victory Vertical Pianos - compact instruments designed by Steinway & Sons for soldiers during World War II - is not widely known, but it's one that deserves to be told.

As Dr. Pedersen's fingers danced across the keys, playing pieces like Rachmaninoff's Prelude in G Minor and the lively Chattanooga Choo Choo, I watched our audience become fully engaged. These weren't just beautiful melodies; they were windows into a time when music provided crucial moments of respite and connection for soldiers far from home.

Leading the Carolyn Eynon Singers in this performance was truly special. Our choir's voices blended seamlessly with Dr. Pedersen's piano, adding depth and emotion to these historical pieces. I was proud to see how our singers rose to the occasion, their voices carrying the weight of history while still infusing each note with fresh energy.

The ambiance of the incredibly exquisite pianos, on an imported Viennese oak flooring with the superb acoustics added to the joy of hearing our voices in concert. We thoroughly hope the audience felt our warmth of tone and our souls through sharing our heartfelt message, singing together connects people.

What struck me most about the evening was the sense of connection it fostered. Music has always been a powerful tool for bringing people together, and this performance was a perfect example. I saw audience members of all ages tapping their feet, nodding along, and exchanging knowing glances during familiar tunes.

After the show, several attendees shared their thoughts with me. One gentleman mentioned how the music reminded him of stories his father, a WWII veteran, used to tell. Another spoke about how the performance gave her a new appreciation for the role of music in difficult times. These conversations reinforced my belief in the enduring power of music to educate, inspire, and unite.

This event was more than just a concert; it was a reminder of why we do what we do. Choral music is my passion; the art creates community. We all need music in our lives, and singing together connects people. In my lifetime, this is the most vulnerable, emotional time in our country. Music soothes, heals, and crosses borders!

To everyone who attended, thank you for being part of this special evening. Your presence and enthusiasm made the night truly memorable. And to those who couldn't join us, I hope this gives you a glimpse into what you missed - and perhaps inspires you to join us for future performances.

Looking ahead, I'm more excited than ever about the potential for music to create meaningful experiences and connections in our community. If you'd like to support our efforts to bring more performances like The Victory Vertical Show to Scottsdale, please consider making a donation. Your support, in any amount, helps us continue our mission of enriching lives through music.
